I was driving in Downtown Fort Worth the other day, and it looked like a good day to snap a few shots of the Pier 1 corporate headquarters. As I was packing up, a security guard started out of the building, slowly making his way my direction. I was already ready to go and didn't feel like fighting him, or waiting for him to walk the 200 yards to get to me.
I guess they have to check these things out, but honestly, it really is a hassle to have this hobby sometimes. From what I understand, it's perfectly legal to take exterior photos of even privately held buildings (in the USA), so long as I don't use them for commercial purposes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. If I'd stayed around for the guard to reach me, he could have talked tough, but I was across the street, on public sidewalks, so I don't really think he legally could have stopped me. I need to brush up on my law though, so I can quote statutes, etc.
Anyway, this is the Pier 1 Corporate headquarters, in black and white.

Great shot, and yes you are correct. Here is something nice to carry around with you covering a photographer's rights. http://www.krages.com/phoright.htm

Yes, very dramatic. I like the angle and good work on the contrasts.
